Liverpool lost once again in Europe as Paris-Saint Germain got the better of them at the Parc-des-Princes, winning the game 2-1. Juan Bernat and Neymar scored the goals to put the home side two goals up in the first-half.
Sadio Mane then won a penalty right on the stroke of half-time, which was converted coolly by James Milner. After the break, the Reds had most of the ball but they weren’t able to create many chances to trouble Gianluigi Buffon’s goal.
On the face of it, it was a disappointing loss for Jurgen Klopp’s men who now go into the final matchday with loads of pressure on their shoulders. Napoli won their game against Red Star, meaning Liverpool have to beat the Italian opponents either 1-0 or by a two-goal margin at Anfield two weeks from now.
There were some sleepy performances from the away side players.
Here’s how we rated them:
Alisson (7)
Wrong-footed for the first goal and couldn’t do much to save the second goal. In fact, his saves kept Liverpool in it.
Joe Gomez (5)
A passive performance from the Englishman who was nervous throughout. His passes often strayed wide of the target too.
Dejan Lovren (6)
Difficult evening for the Croat who at times struggled to cope with the pace of the opposition attackers.,
Virgil van Dijk (5)
A lazy clearance allowed PSG to score the opening goal. He was uncharacteristically slow and sloppy.
Andrew Robertson (6)
Stuck to his defensive duties but couldn’t bomb forward as much as he would have liked.
Jordan Henderson (4)
Didn’t do enough in possession and looked devoid of pace when PSG players ran at him.
James Milner (6)
The only Liverpool midfielder who was up for it. Scored the penalty to bring his team back in the game.
Georginio Wijnaldum (4)
A sleepy performance from the Dutchman who was non-existent up until half-time. Deservedly subbed.
Mohamed Salah (5)
Tried hard but couldn’t find an opening.
Roberto Firmino (5)
Back as a number 9 but he was isolated for most parts of the game. Missed a half chance in the second half.
Sadio Mane (6)
One of the few players who tried to create chances. Won the penalty at the stroke of half time.
