Liverpool resume their Premier League campaign after disappointment in Paris with a game against city rivals Everton in the season’s first Merseyside derby.
The Toffees are coming into this clash after winning five of their last seven games, losing one at Old Trafford and getting an impressive draw at Stamford Bridge. So, on the face of it, this is probably the best Blues side to visit Anfield for a while.
Therefore, it won’t be easy for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who are yet to lose a game in the league and lie just two points behind leaders Manchester City. They will miss captain Jordan Henderson due to suspension, however, they have Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner and Goerginio Wijnaldum to choose the midfield combination from.
Everton don’t really have many injury issues to deal with, other than young Jonjoe Kenny who is doubtful to take part on Sunday.
Here’s the XI we think Jurgen Klopp will select this weekend:
GK: Alisson
Alisson was immense against PSG and continues to make key saves. Starts every game.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold
The youngster was left out of action in midweek, hence, he will be fresh to start here.
CB: Joe Gomez
After struggling a bit at right-back against PSG, Gomez should return to his favoured position at centre-back.
CB: Virgil van Dijk
The Dutchman will be aiming to lead his defence to another clean sheet in the league.
LB: Andy Robertson
He is probably the best left-back in the league and starts every game these days.
CM: Fabinho
With Jordan Henderson suspended, Fabinho could start in a midfield two, a system which suits the Brazilian.
CM: James Milner
The energy and tenacity of Milner could be vital in a derby game.
RW: Xherdan Shaqiri
The Swiss star tends to start in home games to provide more creativity.
CAM: Roberto Firmino
Firmino’s clever movements between the lines and his link-up play will be needed against what has been a decent Everton defence,
LW: Sadio Mane
Mane was the best attacker in Paris. His movements in wide left areas, linking with Robertson, should cause Everton a lot of problems.
ST: Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian will be gunning to keep his scoring run going in the league and will do so playing as a striker.
