Liverpool regained their top position in the Premier League with a comfortable 3-1 win over Manchester United at Anfield.
Sadio Mane scored the opening goal of the game, while Xherdan Shaqiri netted a brace after coming on a substitute to seal the win. Jesse Lingard scored the equaliser to keep the away side in the game in the first half.
After a gruelling start by the Reds, they got the lead through Mane in the 24th minute when Fabinho found him with a precise straight clipped ball. The Senegalese star took it on the chest and finished in one motion.
United equalised when a Romelu Lukaku cross was spilled by Alisson and Lingard was on hand to score.
Jurgen Klopp made an inspiring substitution in bringing Xherdan Shaqiri at around the 70th-minute mark. The Swiss then scored in the 73rd minute to bring Liverpool back into the lead, via a deflection from Ashley Young.
Shaqiri then wrapped up proceedings with a one-two with Salah and Firmino, before unleashing a shot towards the corner beating David de Gea, this time with a slight deflection from Eric Bailly.
Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players.
Alisson - 6
The Brazilian spilled the cross which led to United scoring. Other than that, he didn’t have much to do.
Nathaniel Clyne - 7
Played a Premier League game after eight months and stepped up to the plate.
Dejan Lovren - 7
He handled the physicality of United very well. A good performance from the Croat.
Virgil van Dijk - 8
The Dutchman didn’t put a foot wrong and dominated against Lukaku throughout.
Andy Robertson - 8
The Scot was at it again. He is a constant runner with the ball and kept probing. He is some player.
Fabinho - 8
The Brazilian was immense for the Reds. His pass for Mane’s goal was exquisite. He controlled the midfield fantastically.
Georginio Wijnaldum - 7
The Dutchman was a good foil for Fabinho in central midfield. The pair form a great partnership.
Naby Keita - 6
He tried a lot on the ball but United stifled him well. A busy performance from the Guinean. Subbed off for Shaqiri.
Roberto Firmino - 8
He drove Liverpool forward at every given opportunity. The Brazilian was at the heart of every attack.
Sadio Mane - 7
The Senegalese star scored the opener in a fantastic manner. He did terrifically well to get past a defender on the byline in the build-up to the second goal. Subbed off later.
Mohamed Salah - 6
The Egyptian was well marshalled by the United centre-backs but he kept on trying for the team.
SUB: Xherdan Shaqiri - 9
The minute he was on, the Swiss wanted to make a difference. Scored the two match-winning goals, albeit via deflections.
SUB: Jordan Henderson - 6
Came on late to shore things up.
