Liverpool continued their charge in the league with a resounding 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield.
A Roberto Firmino hattrick, backed up by goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, was enough to demolish a hapless Gunners side.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a goal that gave the away side a lead in the 14th minute, however, that advantage lasted just three minutes.
Firmino equalised after a mishap at the back for Unai Emery’s men. The Brazilian was a joke in on the act two minutes later, when Mane won the ball back from Lucas Torreira. The aforementioned goalscorer then went on for a mazy run, and dribbled past both Arsenal centre-backs to slot home the finish.
Mane made it three in the 32nd minute after the Gunners kept Salah onside in the second phase after a corner. The Egyptian then neatly teed up the Senegalese star to score his goal.
Salah then won a penalty at the stroke of half-time and converted it himself. A push on Dejan Lovren midway through the second half gifted another penalty to the Reds. This time Firmino stepped up and scored to complete his hattrick.
Here’s how we rated the Liverpool players:
Alisson - 7
Couldn’t have done much to save the goal. His 50-yard pass in the build up to the fourth goal was sublime. Nothing to do after the break.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7
A solid performance from the youngster.
Dejan Lovren - 7
A compact and solid performance from the Croat. He could have done better with his ball over the top in the lead up to the Arsenal goal.
Virgil van Dijk - 8
He loves clean sheets and didn’t get one today. But the Dutchman did his job with little fuss.
Andy Robertson - 7
Made a slightly nervy start and lost the runner on his side for the Arsenal goal. But came back well and showed great grit and determination in the second half to not concede any more goals.
Fabinho - 7
Started the game with a couple of wry passes. However, like others, the Brazilian came back at it soon and took control.
Georginio Wijnaldum - 9
A fantastic performance from the Dutchman who controlled the midfield all by himself at times. A solid and reliable man in centre of the park.
Xherdan Shaqiri - 6
He skittled in and out of the game but produced moments of quality when required.
Roberto Firmino - 10
The hero of the night and a fantastic performance to boost it. The second goal was a thing of beauty.
Sadio Mane - 8
He was a real threat throughout the hour he played. Set up the second Firmino goal and scored the team’s third goal.
Mohamed Salah - 8
The Egyptian was an ever-present danger in behind the Arsenal defence. Won and scored the penalty at the stroke of half-time, assisted the Mane goal.
SUB - Jordan Henderson - 7
Came on around the hour mark as Liverpool looked to sure things up in midfield.
SUB - Adam Lallana - 6
Came on for the final quarter and showed some quality on the ball.
SUB - Nathaniel Clyne - N/A
Came on with game petering out in the last seven minutes.
