Liverpool currently sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier League and Virgil van Dijk’s uprise in form has played a huge part in the club’s success so far this season.

So much so, that van Dijk is now rightly in the ‘best in the world’ conversation and he received some fairly prestigious endorsement over in Munich by none-other than World Cup winner Mats Hummels.

As the Reds kicked off at Brighton & Hove Albion, Hummels was asked on Twitter: “Do you think that Van Dijk is the best centre back in the world right now?” His response was as clear as responses come.

So far in the 2018-19 Premier League campaign, the Netherlands international has a 76% tackle success rate, he’s won 129 duels in comparison to the 41 he’s lost and has won three times as many aerial battles than he’s lost.

Liverpool have only conceded 10 goals in their first 22 top-flight outings, achieving 12 clean sheets along the way, thanks to not only the class of van Dijk, but heroics from new goalkeeper Alisson too.

There’s no doubting the no. 4 is a future captain at Anfield and at the age of 27, his best years may still be around the corner, and that’s quite a scary thought.
