Liverpool couldn’t manage to break down a stubborn West Ham United rearguard and dropped points again by only drawing 1-1 at the London Stadium.
Sadio Mane scored the opening goal for the Reds in the 22nd minute, after some good work from Adam Lallana allowed him to feed the ball to James Milner. The latter then fed it towards the Senegalese forward, who swivelled and finished it well.
Actually, the goal shouldn’t have stood as Milner was miles offside in the build-up, but the linesman was at the wrong position and kept his flag down.
The Hammers equalised six minutes later when a cleverly worked free-kick from Felipe Anderson and Michail Antonio left the latter in acres of space to just put his foot through the ball and score.
Liverpool couldn’t find the penetration from there on, and it was West Ham who had the better chances on the counter-attack to kill the Reds off.
Here’s how we rated Liverpool’s players in the game:
Alisson - 6
The Brazilian couldn’t have done much to save the goal. Looked nervy a couple of times with the ball and was lucky not to give away a late goal when he gave the ball to Andy Carroll.
James Milner - 6
Tried his best in an unfamiliar position but was out of depth as running up and down the pitch took its toll.
Joel Matip - 5
The Cameroonian defender was sloppy at times which didn’t help his team at all.
Virgil van Dijk - 6
The Dutchman gave his all but it wasn’t Liverpool’s day as a whole.
Andy Robertson - 6
The Scot made some very good runs down the left-hand channel but his final ball could have been better at times.
Fabinho - 5
Slow in possession and gave away silly fouls in the first half that mounted the pressure.
Naby Keita - 5
Was trying too hard at times but it wasn’t coming off. Should have marked Antonio for the concession of the goal and his poor play gave the Hammers that free-kick. Looked more dangerous in the second half though.
Adam Lallana - 7
Was involved in the build-up of the goal and the Englishman tried his best in midfield. Subbed with around 25 minutes to go.
Mohamed Salah - 5
Non-existent in the first half, came to the life after the break but it wasn’t enough.
Roberto Firmino - 4
The Brazilian was very sloppy with simple passes that must have frustrated the Liverpool fans. Subbed for Origi.
Sadio Mane - 7
Scored the goal and tried hard for an hour but lost steam at the end.
(SUB) Xherdan Shaqiri - 3
Little or no influence after coming on.
(SUB) Divock Origi - 3
Tried hard but couldn’t do much. He had a glorious chance to win it late on but spurned. The Belgian was offside actually but the flag stayed down and the goal would have stood had he finished it.
