Rene van der Gijp believes that Ajax’s young star Matthijs de Ligt should make the move to Liverpool in the Summer.

The young Dutch star has made a big impact for the Dutch side and is likely to make the move away from Amsterdam in the Summer.

Numerous clubs are interested in signing the Ajax man, with Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester United are linked.

However, van der Gijp believes that if De Ligt was to make the move to Liverpool, it would be a massive boost for Dutch football.

He believes that De Ligt playing regularly alongside Virgil van Dijk would be a huge boost for the Dutch national side, with the Netherlands benefitting from the pair playing week in, week out for the Reds.

van der Gijp told Dutch reporters, via InsideFutbol:

It would be great for Dutch football if those two defenders can play alongside each other for five to six years.

Then you are getting the best centre-back pairing in Europe.

However, with Ajax expecting a big fee for the defender, Liverpool may not be so keen in signing the defender.

The Dutch side reportedly want over €80 million for De Ligt, which may put Liverpool off.
