The Reds have the difficult task of playing German giants Bayern Munich at Anfield tomorrow night in the Champions League Round of 16.
After a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth, Liverpool are in good spirits and fresh from their Marbella training in preparation for the game.
Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez will be absent for the game and although Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has trained in the camp he most likely won’t feature.
Xherdan Shaqiri wasn’t in the squad that beat Bournemouth but is due to be back in time for this game – Virgil van Dijk will miss the game through suspension.
The Bavarian side will be without Corentin Tolisso, Jerome Boateng, Manuel Neuer, Renato Sanchez and Arjen Robben for the game.
Thomas Muller will also miss the game after his sending off in their previous game against Ajax.
With that in mind many players have turned out for both clubs and here are seven of them:
Christian Ziege
A German left back, Ziege started his career with Bayern Munich and went on to play nearly 200 times for them between 1990 and 1997.
He moved to England with Middlesbrough in 1999, after playing for AC Milan for a season, and then controversially to Liverpool in 2000.
Liverpool were fined £20,000 pound for their illegal approach of Ziege and he only played 16 games in a season before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in 2001
Markus Babbel
Another player who started his career with Bayern, he had one season with them, playing 12 times before moving to Hamburg and then back to Bayern Munich.
The second time round he played 170 times and won the Bundesliga three times, Gerard Houlier brought him to Liverpool in 2000 with Ziege.
Mainly a right back during his time with the Reds, Babbel played over 50 times before contracting Guillain-Barre syndrome which effectively ended his Liverpool career – he was sent out on loan to Blackburn Rovers in 2003 and then sold to Stuttgart a year later.
Emre Can
The German midfielder started his senior career with Bayern Munich, playing for their second team and then debuting for their first team in 2012.
He only managed a season with them before moving to Bayer Leverkusen for a year and then Brendan Rodgers brought him to Liverpool for £9.75million.
Can became an important figure for the Reds regularly starting in midfield, and sometimes defence, he even captained towards the end of his 115-game stint in Merseyside – he left Liverpool after his contract ran down and joined Italian giants Juventus.
Pepe Reina
A modern-day legend at Liverpool, Reina signed from Villareal in 2005 immediately taking over from Jerzy Dudek as the clubs number one.
He played in a staggering 285 Premier League games before the signing of Simon Mignolet in the 2013/14 season reduced him to a loan spell with Napoli.
In 2014 he ended his nine year career with the Reds and signed for Bayern Munich, but he was used as a back for Manuel Neuer and he was signed permanently by Napoli a year later.
Didi Hamann
Another player who started his career with Bayern Munich, he made his debut in 1993 and made 105 Bundesliga appearances for the German club in a five-year spell.
He moved to Newcastle united, but just for a year before he moved to Liverpool in 1999 and won the FA Cup and League Cups twice and the famous Champions League in 2005.
Hamann became a fans favourite during his time at Liverpool and after over 200 games for the Reds he moved to Bolton and then to Manchester City in 2006.
Xherdan Shaqiri
Shaqiri began his career in his native Switzerland with FC Basel and after impressing for them Bayern Munich picked him up as a youngster in 2012.
He managed 52 appearances in three years, mainly used as a squad player, and won the Bundesliga twice.
The winger moved to Inter Milan for six months and then to Stoke City and after their relegation in the summer he signed for Liverpool where he has become an important figure in the Reds current title chasing campaign.
Xabi Alonso
The most decorated player on this list, Xabi Alonso started his career with Real Sociedad and joined Rafa Benitez’ Liverpool in 2004.
Alonso formed a famous partnership with Steven Gerrard in Liverpool’s midfield and was vital in Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League winning season.
He left Merseyside in 2009, after 143 Premier League appearances, for Spanish giants Real Madrid and then to Bayern Munich in 2014, in Germany he won the Bundesliga three times before retiring in 2017.
