Van Dijk urges Liverpool to “keep winning”
Virgil van Dijk has urged his teammates to keep their focus and “keep winning” as Liverpool battle it out with Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s side saw off relegation threatened Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon to move two points clear of City, who play their game in hand over the Reds on Wednesday against rivals Manchester United.
And following the victory over the Bluebirds, van Dijk told the club’s official website he hopes Liverpool can maintain their winning form.
The only thing we can do is keep playing and keep winning. Keep enjoying it and hopefully the weather stays nice and let’s go for it.
Liverpool had to remain patient in Sunday’s win over Cardiff, with Georginio Wijnaldum firing in from a corner in the second half to open the scoring for Klopp’s side.
And van Dijk believes the Reds have improved in their ability to remain calm throughout a difficult match this season and believe the chances will eventually fall their way.
You try to keep a cool head and I think that’s something we have improved on during the season. Just keep doing what we are doing, don’t panic and we will get opportunities because we have plenty of quality in the team and no team can defend at their highest level for 90 minutes. So there will always be slight moments of spaces that we can exploit and I think we did it.
