Liverpool not interested in either McCarthy or Tokoz
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are not interested in signing either Dorukhan Tokoz or Alex McCarthy, despite both supposedly being ‘reported targets’.
Tokoz, a midfielder who can also play in defence, only appeared in 20 of Besiktas’ 34 league games. The Turkish midfielder still managed to score three and assist four, which can be considered impressive from a defensive-midfield position.
It had been claimed that Liverpool were in the running to sign the player, but their interest has been denied.
Alex McCarthy had a decent start to last season for Southampton but was later dropped for fellow Englishman Angus Gunn as new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl preferred the latter.
Despite that, McCarthy still appeared 25 times in the league for the Saints, before being linked with a summer move to Anfield.
It had been suggested that the 29-year-old could replace Simon Mignolet as a number two behind Alisson, but that no longer appears to be an option.
