Liverpool remain top of the Premier League table after a 3-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday
Mohamed Salah failed to get on the scoresheet, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. The Egyptian had a shot just tipped onto the post in the first half, before turning greedy after the break.
Can he keep his spot at the top of the Power Rankings?
Sadio Mane lost top spot last week for the first time this season, but he scored his fourth goal of the season just before half-time at Turf Moor.
The defence stopped a physical threat from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood, giving Adrian his first clean sheet for Liverpool and calming the early-season problems at the back.
Roberto Firmino set the Premier League record as the first Brazilian to net 50 goals – he’s still waiting to top the Power Rankings this season.
Each Monday moving forward, we will be selecting Liverpool’s five best performers from the previous weekend.
As the season progresses, we will continue to work out who sits in the top five overall, determining who the Reds’ most influential and consistent individuals are.
Here’s who tops Liverpool’s Power Rankings after Gameweek 4, going into the clash at home to Newcastle United after the international break.
5. Trent Alexander-Arnold
Last week: Not Included.
Alexander-Arnold’s first ‘goal’ of the game looked like a Steven Gerrard-esque lob from 40 yards, but after closer inspection it was a deflected cross that wrong-footed Nick Pope.
All the same, the 20-year-old was a constant threat down the right, showing once again that he is arguably the best attacking full-back in the world.
4. Virgil Van Dijk
Last Week: 4
There’s no move for Van Dijk this week, who kept a first clean sheet of the season at Burnley.
He followed a dominant display against Arsenal by completely shutting down the Clarets’ front-two of Barnes and Wood.
The big Dutchman may have won UEFA Men’s Player of the Year last week, but he still can’t crack the top three of the Power Rankings.
3. Mohamed Salah
Last Week: 1
It was a great performance from Salah at Turf Moor, with the Egyptian King a constant threat.
He could have opened the scoring twice, and got an assist for Firmino’s goal, but he couldn’t find the net.
2. Sadio Mane
Last Week: 2
Mane slotted effortlessly past Pope in the first half – his fourth goal in all competitions already this season.
The Senegalese didn’t have too many opportunities to get a brace, and seemed to be upset that he was neglected a few times by Salah.
What a start to the campaign he has made.
1. Roberto Firmino
Last Week: 3
Fifty Premier League goals, which is a record for any Brazilian.
‘Bobby’ teed-up Mane for his goal in trademark style, running at the Burnley defence and playing an inch-perfect pass.
Liverpool’s number nine then put the icing on the cake in the 80th minute, firing home a ruthless strike from outside the penalty area.
A goal and an assist takes Firmino to the top of the Power Rankings for the first time this season.
