Liverpool survived a massive scare and continued their remarkable winning run by beating Wolves 2-1 at Molineux on Thursday.
The dramatic victory means the Reds are 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand.
Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino scored the goals for Liverpool in either half, while Raul Jimenez equalised for Wolves in between.
After a controlled start to the game, Jurgen Klopp’s men took the lead in the 8th minute, when a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner was shouldered in by Henderson at the near post.
The away side had other chances to stretch their lead, but Mohamed Salah had two attempts blocked in the box. Meanwhile, Matt Doherty headed wide at the other end.
Wolves eventually equalised early in the second half when Adama Traore got in space to deliver a great cross for Jimenez to head in.
The aforementioned striker had a chance to put Wolves ahead moments later, but Alisson made a crucial save.
That stop turned out to be match-changing, as Firmino popped up with a goal five minutes from time to silence Molineux.
Diogo Jota had an opportunity to equalise late on, but he fluffed his lines.
All in all, it was a tough night for Liverpool, but they did just enough to win yet another game, edging closer to title glory in the process.
Here’s how we rated the players after the game…
Alisson - 8
Alisson couldn’t have done much to save the goal, but he made two crucial saves later on to keep the scores level and allow compatriot Firmino to bag a winner.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6
Alexander-Arnold provided the assist for Henderson’s goal, but he was inconsistent on the ball and struggled defensively, too.
Not his best night.
Joe Gomez - 9
A high-class performance from Gomez, who continues to show why he is one of the best defenders around.
His reading of the game was sumptuous and he made some important defensive contributions.
Virgil van Dijk - 8
Apart from a couple of sloppy moments, Van Dijk had a good game at the back.
The Dutchman was made to work hard, but he impressed for large parts of the match.
Andy Robertson - 5
Robertson struggled with the pace and directness of Adam Traore all night long.
His input in the attacking third wasn’t too good either, as his lean patch continues.
Jordan Henderson - 9
A captain’s performance from Henderson.
Scored a goal, assisted the winner and helped the team out defensively when they were struggling to match the intensity of the opposition.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 5
Oxlade-Chamberlain was good on the ball, but was all over the place without it and never looked comfortable in the game.
Substituted after the hour mark.
Gini Wijnaldum - 7
Wijnaldum had a quiet first half but he worked his socks off after the break and carried the ball forward from midfield, helping the team create moments in the final third.
Mohamed Salah - 6
Salah’s hold-up play and work off the ball was top class, but his finishing was way off the radar.
There were a couple of occasions when he could have found a teammate, too, rather than shooting.
Roberto Firmino - 8
Firmino worked hard all over the pitch for Liverpool and was effective in attacking areas.
He forced Rui Patricio into a good save, before producing a stunning late finish to win the game for the Reds.
Sadio Mane - 6
Mane started the game in a decent fashion, but pulled his hamstring and had to be replaced around the half-hour mark.
(SUB) Takumi Minamino - 6
Minamino made his Premier League debut and got a tough introduction.
He didn’t shy away, though, and worked hard for the team.
(SUB) Fabinho - 6
Fabinho came on for the last half-hour and helped the team restore control in midfield.
A nice cameo from the Brazilian.
(SUB) Divock Origi - n/a
Origi came on after Liverpool scored the winner and helped them see out the game.
