We haven’t even finished the 2019/20 season yet but already, it’s looking like the future of defender Kalidou Koulibaly is going to be a story which will run from now until the transfer window opens, at the earliest.
The Senegalese star has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the last few weeks, but now, the Italian outlet Il Mattino, via The Express, are claiming that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to sign the 28-year-old.
However, Napoli’s asking price of £89million would, according to the report, likely be too much for Liverpool, Spurs or any other Premier League club to pay, whilst the player’s reported wage demands of around £96,000-a-week could also be an issue for suitors in the current marketplace.

As we’ve said a few times already, Koulibaly would be a welcome addition to most squads in Europe, including Liverpool and Spurs, but the finances will make any deal very difficult, given current events.
If Napoli decide to reduce their asking price for any reason, then we could see Liverpool and Tottenham making a move for the defender and in that case, he’d have the choice to join either the likely Premier League champions or a team battling for a place in the top four.
