Timo Werner has agreed personal terms with Liverpool ahead of a summer contract, according to Ian McGarry.

Speaking on The Transfer Window Podcast, he said:

Werner has agreed personal terms with Liverpool on a five-year contract that will pay the player around £140,000-a-week.

McGarry went on to explain that his sources have told him that stories linking the player with Chelsea and Man United are wide of the mark, as although both clubs have made enquires about the German, they’ve both been told by his representatives that a move to Liverpool is almost done and that they should look at other targets instead.

It has been widely reported that Chelsea and Manchester United have been interested in the player but our information is that’s not the case. The reason for that is that they believe, and have been told by the player’s representatives, that a deal is effectively done to Liverpool and effectively, they would be wasting their time.

It seems clear that Werner has his heart set on a move to Liverpool at this point and all that remains is for a fee to be agreed.

McGarry also claims that Liverpool don’t want to pay Werner’s release clause as they think they can negotiate a smaller fee due to the player’s desire to join the Reds and because of the expected slump in market prices in the transfer window due to current global events.

In order to act in such a manner, the Reds must be very confident that Werner only wants to move to Liverpool as any other club could simply come in and stump up his release clause if they wanted to.
