Liverpool and Manchester United are battling to sign 15-year-old central defender Willy Kambwala from French Ligue 2 side FC Sochaux, according to a report from L’Équipe, via GFFN.

Sochaux have offered the teenager a youth contract but he’s yet to put pen-to-paper, which has seemingly alerted both Liverpool and United to his availability.

Neither side will be able to sign Kambwala until he turns 16-years-old in August due to FIFA regulations but it looks like both clubs are setting the wheels in motion ahead of a potential transfer.

Given that Liverpool are the reigning Premier League, European and World champions, it’s a bit difficult for fans to get too excited over the possibility of their club signing a young defender this is the type of move that helps keep the best clubs going for the long-term.

Liverpool’s policy of signing the best young players they can get their hands on has served them well in the recent past and if the club scouts think that Kambwala has what it takes to play in the first-team in the future, then signing him now would make perfect sense.
