FC Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie looks set to leave the German side this summer, with Liverpool among the clubs interested in signing him.

CBS have reported that the United States international has drawn interest from teams in England, Spain, Germany and France, all of whom have been monitoring his progress.

McKennie has cemented himself as a starter in the middle of the park for Schalke in recent seasons and performed very well in a somewhat disappointing season for David Wagner’s side.

It is believed that the 21-year-old is wanting to switch to a side that’s involved in European competitions next season, and tht the Premier League is his preferred destination.

Like many clubs right now, Schalke are being hit with financial trouble and selling some of their top players has become a necessity.

McKennie looks to be a very good prospect, and at 21, he hasn’t even begun to reach his best.

Having been capped 19 times already by his country, and scoring six goals in that time, he is a highly regarded talent and is clearly capable of playing at a high level.

Liverpool’s central midfield is quite stacked at this moment in time, but age is on McKennie’s side and if he was willing to accept fairly limited game time in the short term, then he could prove to be a good signing for the Reds as they look to keep their squad fresh for the years ahead.
