The Community Shield will take place at Wembley on Saturday, August 29th.
The curtain-raiser for the new season will see Premier League champions Liverpool play London opposition in either Arsenal or Chelsea who will meet in this Saturday’s FA Cup final. The winners of that final will face Jürgen Klopp’s men in late August.
The Reds have won the shield 15 times previously, the last of which came in 2006; A 2-1 victory over Chelsea at the Millenium Stadium with John Arne Riise and Peter Crouch scoring the goals for what was then a Rafael Benitez’s side.
This will be Klopp’s second attempt at success in the charity match as Liverpool lost on penalties to Manchester City ahead of last season.
There have been suggestions that the match could see a restricted number of supporters allowed inside Wembley, as part of plans for supporters to make a socially-distanced phased return to sports venues more widely from October 1st.
The match will be immediately followed by an international break that will run from September 2nd to 10th, before the 2020/21 campaign gets underway on September 12th.
