Spanish news outlet ABC Sevilla have claimed that La Liga side Real Betis hope to hold contract talks with Liverpool target Aissa Mandi this summer.

The Algerian has one year remaining on his current deal and has been widely speculated as a target for the Premier League champions as Jurgen Klopp looks to replace Dejan Lovren in his squad.

However, it seems as though Betis haven’t given up hope of keeping their man, who has made 124 appearances in four years for the Seville-based club.

The central defender has previously rejected attempts from the club to commit his future with them, although now it seems with a new agent in place, the hierarchy are confident of retaining their man.

The newly-appointed boss at Betis, former Manchester City and West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, is also said to be keen to keep hold of the 28-year-old, as he looks to build towards the start of next season.

As Klopp looks to strengthen his own defensive options for the 2020/21 season, it would be a disappointing end to the transfer negotiations should Mandi remain at Real Betis.

However, with so much time left in the window, it is perhaps for the best a line is drawn early on any potential deal, giving the Reds time to concentrate of other targets ahead of the return to training in the coming weeks.
