When it comes to transfer news, journalist Fabrizio Romano is one of the most reliable sources around and he has spoken about Thiago Alcantara’s desire to join Liverpool this summer.

The Bayern Munich star has expressed his intentions to leave the Bavarian club this summer as he heads into the final year of his contract and it looks like Liverpool would be his preferred destination.

During an appearance on The Beautiful Game podcast, Romano said:

The player would love to join Liverpool, he would love to play for Jurgen Klopp. He hopes it can be a possibility.

In recent days, French champions PSG have joined and perhaps gone to the front of the queue for the 29-year-old Spain international, with the French club apparently willing to match Bayern’s £27 million valuation of the player without negotiation.

As is often the case with the Reds’ transfer dealings of late, both FSG and Michael Edwards will attempt to save as much money on fees as possible.

Despite his rumoured imminent departure, the Spain international is back training with the German champions as they prepare for the resumption of the Champions League this week

Despite Liverpool being blessed with multiple top quality midfielders, Thiago’s bargain price and desire to join the Premier League champions may represent an opportunity that doesn’t come around every day.

Following Adam Lallana’s departure to Brighton, there is space in the squad for another central midfielder and it is unclear how influential a role youngster Curtis Jones will play in next seasons squad.

Jurgen Klopp would, in our opinion, be wise to consider making the deal happen, even if it meant a small increase in spending.
