As reported by This Is Anfield’s Jack Lusby, some of Liverpool’s fringe players were involved in a friendly with Huddersfield Town on Sunday afternoon.

Having watched on from the bench as Jurgen Klopp’s side came out 4-3 winners in an exhilarating opening day encounter with Leeds United, those players not afforded match time got a valuable run-out the following day at Anfield.

Japanese international Takumi Minamino scored the Reds’ only goal in a 1-1 draw with a similarly thrown together Huddersfield squad.

The result clearly of little importance, the likes of Adrian, Xherdan Shaqiri, James Milner, Divock Origi and Joel Matip all gaining additional match fitness ahead of challenges to come, including the return to domestic cup action.

Harry Wilson and Loris Karius also appeared as second-half substitutes as their Liverpool careers continue, for now at least, as both men look set to find pastures new this summer.

Another with an uncertain immediate future, Rhian Brewster, also made a substitute appearance as rumours of his possible temporary departure rumble on.

Although Sunday’s line up is likely to be made up of those who featured in Saturday’s opener, added match sharpness in the squad can only benefit Klopp’s charges as the season gets busier.
