During his trophy-laden reign at Anfield, Klopp has never gone deep into the prestigious domestic cup competition, but that could change this season as priorities may be on the cusp of shifting as Liverpool fall off the title pace.
The recent barren spell in front of goal, combined with a makeshift defence, has seen Klopp’s men hit a run of five league matches without a win, either side of a hard-fought success in the cup against a youthful Aston Villa outfit.
Normally, the Reds boss would make a host of changes for the FA Cup. However, owing to the current form and the fact that it’s Manchester United away, there could be a strong team selection this time.
With more conjecture than ever regarding the best policy heading into this cup clash, we’ve predicted who we believe the German manager will pick. We anticipate there will be seven changes from the team which lost to Burnley on Thursday night…
GK - Alisson Becker
Would normally be heading a queue for a rest in the cup but will likely be called upon this time around.
RB - Neco Williams
The major risk in a huge clash but, with Trent Alexander-Arnold struggling, Williams deserves a shot.
CB - Nat Phillips
Not seen of late. His aerial ability may come to the fore should Manchester United pick Edinson Cavani.
Joel Matip may be wrapped in cotton wool for league matters, given his brittle injury record.
CB - Fabinho
Bizarrely undroppable despite playing out of position. Remains a huge miss from the midfield, though.
LB - Kostas Tsimikas
Injuries have hampered his early months on Merseyside, but he’s back fit now and should give Andy Robertson a well-earned break.
CM - James Milner
Liverpool need a leader in this one and, with Jordan Henderson likely to be sidelined, Milner is a must-pick.
CM - Thiago
Still finding his feet in a new team and has barely played this season through injury so should be relatively fresh.
CM - Curtis Jones
Big stage to show his abilities again.
RW - Mohamed Salah
Rested for the majority of the Burnley clash and comes in with scores to settle after getting little change from Luke Shaw last weekend.
RW - Divock Origi
Perhaps should be sidelined for the foreseeable after that miss against Burnley but Sadio Mane will be in line for a rest ahead of crucial Premier League fixtures.
CF - Roberto Firmino
Suffering a major crisis of confidence which can only be cured by playing and scoring.
Watched the first hour against Burnley from the bench before his introduction so should be ready to go.
