On this day (14th April) 2009, Liverpool and Chelsea produced one of the most memorable games in Champions League history.

The two Premier League clubs met in the quarter-finals of the competition, with Chelsea initially in the driving seat.

Chelsea, then managed by Guus Hiddink, were 3-1 up after the first leg of the tie at Anfield.

However, Liverpool were not ready to go down without a fight, with the Reds staging a dramatic comeback.

Despite taking the lead at halftime and leveling the tie – goals from Didier Drogba, Alex, and eventually Frank Lampard secured the win…

The game became an instant Champions League classic and it was easy to see why.

Liverpool have been known for dramatic comebacks in Europe and that game was no different.

Sadly for the Reds, they weren’t quite on full form and mistakes at the back led to Chelsea managing to get their foot back in the game.

The Reds go into Champions League action again tonight with another task on their hands against Real Madrid.

If Jurgen Klopp’s side can win the tie, they will face Chelsea once again in another crunch game in Europe.

However, the first task at hand is that of Zinedine Zidane’s Los Blancos.
