This summer will prove incredibly important for Liverpool new boy Diogo Jota at the Euros.
The Portuguese forward joined the Reds at the start of last season for just over £40million from Wolves.
Jota enjoyed a fantastic debut season for the club, scoring 13 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.
At times, the 24-year-old even managed to dislodge Liverpool’s famed front three throughout the season.
However, this summer will prove incredibly important for Jota, with it being his first European Championships…
His native Portugal won the 2016 edition of the tournament, but Jota was not involved with the squad.
Despite this, five years on, Jota is one of the stars for Portugal this summer, and he seems eager to retain the title.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Jota stated the extra motivation for himself and his country to succeed this summer.
The forward has 6 goals in 14 games for Portugal, and there is a possibility for him to start this evening.
Jota is clearly starting to get things going with his career and winning the Euros this summer could be a huge benefit for the Reds.
The forward is yet to win silverware with the club, but him catching that big with his country would be vital.
Liverpool are no doubt aiming to get themselves back in the title race next season and Jota could play a huge role.
Him winning the Euros this summer with Portugal could set that mentality to help the Reds achieve this again next season.
There is no denying that Liverpool fans will be cheering Jota on with Portugal this summer.
Hopefully, Jota will return to the club a better player than he left before the tournament, for both his and the clubs development.
