Nathaniel Clyne’s contract has now expired and he has left Liverpool after five years at the club.

On July 1st, 2015, Liverpool confirmed the signing of Clyne on a five-year deal, from Southampton for £12.5 million.

Clyne, 29, made 71 appearances in his first two seasons with the club, playing an integral part at right back. He also played the full 90 minutes in the Europa League Cup final defeat against Sevilla in 2016.

Ahead of the 2017/18 season, Clyne suffered a back injury that ruled him out until February.

After missing the entire season up to that point, in December 2018, with Trent Alexander-Arnold also sidelined, Clyne made a surprise first appearance at Anfield against Manchester United in a 3-1 victory for the Reds.

The emergence of Alexander-Arnold, coupled with Clyne’s injuries, meant the ex-Southampton man’s first-team opportunities were very limited.

The former England man, who has represented his country on nine occasions, joined Premier League club Bournemouth on loan in January 2019 for the remainder of the season. He made 14 appearances during his time on the south coast.

After having made no appearances during the title-winning campaign due to his continuing injury problems, Liverpool confirmed that his contract would not be renewed and Clyne would leave the club.

At 29, Clyne could still have plenty to offer to another club and we wish him luck for his next move.
