Liverpool will be looking to avenge a humbling defeat suffered at the hands of Aston Villa earlier this season, as well as breaking a rather unpleasant Anfield run in the process.

The Reds are without a win at their previous L4 fortress in eight attempts and will be desperate to end that on Saturday ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League quarter-final second leg and a crucial run-in.

Former Liverpool defender turned pundit Mark Lawrenson has told his BBC Sport prediction column that he expects Jurgen Klopp’s side to do just that:

It would be huge for Jurgen Klopp’s side if they can take the three points at Anfield on Saturday – something they haven’t done in any of their past eight games there, since 16 December. A home win would get that monkey off their back ahead of the visit of Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, but it is far more important in terms of keeping them in touch with the top four.

Lawrenson predicted a 2-0 win for his former club, a result that would see the Reds move within the Champions League spots

Liverpool have received a boost in the build-up to the clash on the injury front after Jack Grealish was ruled out with an ongoing shin issue.

There’s no room for manoeuvre now for Klopp’s side, if they are going to come out of this season with anything to show, wins, in particular at Anfield, need to become a formality once again.

Whilst Villa will present a stern test, the loss of their captain and talisman Grealish is a big one and should hand Liverpool the upper hand.
