# Alberto Moreno plays down Madrid links, unlike his agent…

Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno has been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2015/11/27/real-madrid-linked-january-move-liverpool-defender/) with a move back to his homeland to join Rafa Benitez’s Real Madrid.

However, the 23-year-old said that neither he or his representatives have had any contact from the Spanish giants.

Moreno [said](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-alberto-moreno-plays-10537721):

> I have never had anything serious with them – not me, not my brothers or representatives. I have not found out about that \[Real Madrid interest\], I do not know whether that is true.

While Moreno seemed keen to cool talk of a possible move to Madrid, his agent, Javier Moya, was happy to talk up the possibility and said his client would be happy to make such a transfer if the opportunity presented itself.

Moya said:

> If Real Madrid were to make an offer that would make him really happy, but Liverpool would have to take the first step.
>
> If a team as important as Real Madrid were to speak with us and Liverpool were satisfied with the operation, we would talk.
>
> Inquiring about an important player is logical, that is normal. Important teams from Spain and other places are asking. It’s difficult.
>
> Everyone knows the importance of Real Madrid but Liverpool have five European Cups.

Moreno was signed by the then Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers for £12m in 2014 and featured prominently in his first year at the club. However, at the start of the 2015/16 campaign, he was dropped to the substitute’s bench with Rodgers preferring to start youngster Joe Gomez at left-back.

Since Gomez was ruled out for the season, the Spaniard has featured regularly and seems to have found a new lease of life under new boss Jurgen Klopp.
