# Alonso set for Anfield return?

Xabi Alonso could be set for a return to Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, [claim Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/475753/Liverpool-Xabi-Alonso-Bayern-Munich-transfer-news).

The current Bayern Munich midfielder has reportedly become a person of interest to Klopp, who managed his Dortmund side against a Bayern team with Alonso in it last season.

After the sale of Steven Gerrard, Liverpool have lacked a bit of experience and level-headedness in the centre of the park, with Klopp apparently seeing the signing of the veteran Spaniard as a good fit for the Reds.

Alonso previously had a five-year spell with Liverpool between 2004 to 2009. He played in 143 Premier League matches for the Reds before he moved on to Real Madrid and more recently Bayern Munich where he is currently plying his trade.

Alonso is 33-years-old and has retired from international football after earning 114 caps for the Spanish national side.

He could add a calmness that Liverpool need in their play and use his crisp passing to set up attacks or keep the ball for the Reds.
