# Assists mean as much as scoring goals, claims Salah

Mohamed Salah claims assists mean as much to him as scoring goals for Liverpool.

The Egyptian has an outstanding goalscoring record for the Reds, [scoring 85 goals in 132 appearances](https://www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/1317) since [joining](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40345138) from Roma.

Salah is occasionally [accused](https://talksport.com/football/512937/liverpool-fans-greedy-mohamed-salah-stats-jurgen-klopp-goal-drought-fulham/) of greediness in his hunt for goals, however, with one public [bust-up](https://sportwitness.co.uk/everyone-taking-ps-us-liverpool-star-puts-bed-rumours-spat-teammate/) with Sadio Mane at Burnley highlighting the issue.

Speaking to [https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11910458/mohamed-salah-exclusive-interview-adapting-at-liverpool-and-hunting-down-the-premier-league-title](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11910458/mohamed-salah-exclusive-interview-adapting-at-liverpool-and-hunting-down-the-premier-league-title)*[Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11910458/mohamed-salah-exclusive-interview-adapting-at-liverpool-and-hunting-down-the-premier-league-title)*, Liverpool’s No.11 says creating goals brings a huge amount of pleasure to him, too:

> Sometimes people judge you only on your goals, but honestly, \[the creativity\] is something the gaffer thinks about and talks to me about a lot.

> I think my team-mates are happy about it too. As long as I feel like am creating chances and giving assists for them, that’s great.

> Maybe people don’t focus much on that, but I like to give assists as well as score.

> In the last game against Tottenham, I gave Bobby \[Roberto Firmino\] an assist and I was really happy for him to score. Without assists – and I don’t just mean my assists – you can’t win games.

> Also, I can’t focus too much on just scoring or finishing myself, because that means my game won’t really change and my opponents will figure out how to defend against me.

> If sometimes I get the ball and create a chance or give an assist, I can confuse them. It’s about being clever.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I think Salah is the most greedy of Liverpool’s much-famed front-three, but there is nothing wrong with that.

He has an obsession with scoring goals, much like Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane, and his record speaks for itself.

Salah gets far too much criticism, though, when in fact he lays on plenty of opportunities for teammates.

He has [seven assists to his name this season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/108226/Show/Mohamed-Salah), as well as 24 combined in the previous two campaigns, in the Premier League and Champions League.

In my opinion, some of Salah’s all-round play has been lacking this season, but he still offers so much in all facets of his game.
