# Atletico suffer fresh injury blow ahead of crucial clash with Liverpool

Atletico Madrid could be without Alvaro Morata on Wednesday night, as Liverpool host the La Liga side in a crucial Champions League clash.

The Reds lost 1-0 in the first leg of their last 16 tie last month, giving them plenty of work to do at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have received a potential boost, with Morata suffering from a thigh problem, according to [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/atletico/2020/03/09/5e6625c1e2704e7d768b4575.html), as translated by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/fresh-atletico-injury-worry-player-full-training-ahead-liverpool-match/).

There is hope that he will be available but he is considered a doubt, as is Thomas Lemar.

Morata’s possible absence is a positive for Liverpool, despite him fluffing his lines in the first leg with the goal gaping.

The Spain international is Altetico’s [top goalscorer](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/63/Show/Spain-Atletico-Madrid) this season, scoring [11 times](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/91213/Show/%C3%81lvaro-Morata) in all competitions.

Diego Costa could start in place of Morata, and while his aggressive style could cause problems on the night, he [hasn’t completed](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/24248/Show/Diego-Costa) a full 90 minutes since October, having struggled with [injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diego-costa/verletzungen/spieler/44779) throughout the campaign.

Morata has been the more influential player this season, so not having him available could enhance Liverpool’s chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

Youngster Joao Felix is another option in attack, but he has only scored [seven goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362431/Show/Jo%C3%A3o-F%C3%A9lix) all season, failing to live up to the hype after joining from Benfica.
