# Bayer Leverkusen sporting director hints at Havertz exit this summer

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has hinted that Kai Havertz will leave his club this summer.

There has been constant speculation surrounding the midfielder’s future, with Liverpool one of those seen as [front-runners](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/01/15/liverpool-reportedly-readying-huge-offer-for-havertz/) to sign him.

Havertz has caught the eye for Leverkusen again this season, [scoring five goals and registering two assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) in the Bundesliga in 2019/20.

Speaking on the TV show ‘[100% Bundesliga – Football at Nitro](https://www.nitro-tv.de/cms/eigenformate/100-prozent-bundesliga.html)’, with quotes provided by [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/well-see-how-it-looks-in-the-summer-havertz-future-to-be/faqs5gsnfk6g1lln9c1xgexlo), Voller hinted that the time has come for the 20-year-old to enjoy a new challenge:

> I am glad that we still held \[on to Kai Havertz\] this year.

> We’ll see how it looks in summer. He still has a contract until 2022 – these are, of course, the classic facts.

> There was already interest in the summer, but we told him that it would be good for him to stay with us for another year. And that was the right decision.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

I think signing Havertz has to be at the top of Liverpool’s priorities this summer, due to the creativity that he would bring to the midfield.

The Reds looked ponderous in that area against [Atletico Madrid](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51533273) on Tuesday night, and while key players such as Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum remain integral, more imagination can be needed in the middle of the park at times.

Havertz’s extra creativity stands out, with the German international averaging [2.3 key passes and 2.4 dribbles](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/326413/Show/Kai-Havertz) per game in the league this season. This highlights his ability to make opportunities and also run with the ball in central areas.

This would compliment the likes of Henderson and Wijnaldum nicely, whislt also adding a huge amount of squad depth as he could replace the [outgoing Adam Lallana](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/02/19/leicester-make-official-approach-to-sign-adam-lallana-this-summer/).
