# Carlos turned down potential move to Liverpool

Diego Carlos reportedly rejected a potential move to Liverpool during the January transfer window, according to [E](https://eldesmarque.com/sevilla/sevilla-futbol-club/1199036-diego-carlos-y-el-mensaje-de-sensatez-por-su-cumpleanos)[l](https://eldesmarque.com/sevilla/sevilla-futbol-club/1199036-diego-carlos-y-el-mensaje-de-sensatez-por-su-cumpleanos)[Desmar](https://eldesmarque.com/sevilla/sevilla-futbol-club/1199036-diego-carlos-y-el-mensaje-de-sensatez-por-su-cumpleanos)[que](https://eldesmarque.com/sevilla/sevilla-futbol-club/1199036-diego-carlos-y-el-mensaje-de-sensatez-por-su-cumpleanos).

The 27-year-old Sevilla defender was [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/12/30/liverpool-ready-to-pay-e75m-to-land-diego-carlos/) with the Reds prior to the window opening, but a move never came to fruition.

This latest [update](https://eldesmarque.com/sevilla/sevilla-futbol-club/1199036-diego-carlos-y-el-mensaje-de-sensatez-por-su-cumpleanos) claims that Carlos, who is [valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/diego-carlos/profil/spieler/329145) at £36m, didn’t want to leave his current club, instead looking to possibly move on this summer.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

While I think Carlos could be good signing for Liverpool at the end of the season, I’m not sure there is a need to bring him in. Given his status as an established, highly-rated key man at Sevilla – he has [started 25 of their 27 La Liga games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/134984/Show/Diego-Carlos) this season – it’s fair to say he might be looking for regular first-team action at Anfield.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez the undisputed first-choice centre-back pairing, and Joel Matip also a strong option, I wouldn’t see that happening, though.

Liverpool are in a position where they may need a new fourth-choice option, should [Dejan Lovren leave](https://thekoptimes.com/2019/12/26/dejan-lovren-could-leave-liverpool-in-the-summer-window/) this summer, but that is more likely to be a young player such as Leeds United’s loan star Ben White, who has been [linked](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2019/11/20/liverpool-have-a-genuine-interest-in-ben-white/) with a move to Anfield in recent months.

If Carlos was happy to play that role, it would be advisable for the Reds to a make a bid, but as a player who still has [international aspirations](https://www.sevillafc.es/en/actual/news/diego-carlos-its-big-step-my-career-im-very-happy), that doesn’t appear likely.
