# Carragher tips Alexander-Arnold to emulate De Bruyne – would it work?

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s technical expertise was again on show on Wednesday, as Liverpool beat Salzburg 4-3 in the Champions League.

The 20-year-old teed-up Andy Robertson to score with an inch-perfect cross at Anfield, and almost found Roberto Firmino with a beautiful pass earlier in the game.

> People talk about the future and could he come into midfield and be a Kevin De Bruyne type player and he has more quality now that Liverpool’s midfield players and you think about the crosses that De Bruyne puts in from the right midfield position and maybe that’s a position where Trent could play.

> But at the moment you wouldn’t think about moving position because he is playing so well.

It is common knowledge that Alexander-Arnold used to regularly play in midfield during his academy days, copying his hero Steven Gerrard.

At just 20, there is still plenty of time for him to return to what may be his favoured role, should Jurgen Klopp feel the need to change things up.

He is currently thriving so much at right-back, however, providing great energy and quality from out wide, that it would be an undoubted risk.

Alexander-Arnold has made that spot his own, proving to be arguably Liverpool’s best right-back of the Premier League era, even though Rob Jones, Markus Babbel and Steve Finnan may have something to say about that.

The De Bruyne comparisons are clear, with their class in possession undeniable, but there is no need to change things up for the time being.

It’s a wonderful dilemma for Klopp to have.
