The 23-year-old is one of Germany’s hottest prospects, having scored 23 goals in 24 appearances for RB Leipzig this season.

Many have tipped Werner to join the Jurgen Klopp revolution at Liverpool, but Chelsea may have jumped in front in the race to sign him.

The Blues are reportedly weighing up triggering his release clause at Leipzig in January, which is thought to be anywhere between £25.6 million and £51.2 million.

Frank Lampard is free to sign players again, after Chelsea’s transfer ban was lifted.

Moussa Dembele, Jadon Sancho, Wilfried Zaha, Leon Bailey and Samuel Chukwueze are all mentioned as potential alternatives.
