# Chilwell using ‘one of the world’s best’ Robertson as inspiration

Ben Chilwell admits he uses Andy Robertson as inspiration, calling the Liverpool left-back one of the best in the world in his position.

The Leicester City man is enjoying a superb season, perhaps only sitting behind Robertson in the Premier League left-back pecking order.

Chilwell was linked with Liverpool prior to the Scot’s arrival at Anfield in 2017, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly a big admirer at the time.

Since then, he has gone on to become a superb player and he is likely to start for England at Euro 2020 next summer.

> I want to be the best left back in the world. That feels good to say.

> It feels possible, too, because I look at a guy like Andy Robertson at Liverpool. He has a great story, right? Almost quit, like I did, kept at it, pushed himself past the limits he thought he had, and now he’s one of the best in the world.

> I had a good chat with him a few months back at Trent Alexander-Arnold’s birthday dinner.

> Anyway, I spoke with Andy for a bit and I told him he’s class and whatnot and he said the same to me. It was really cool to chat with him. And just to sort of pick his brain for a bit about football, it meant a lot to me.

It is easy to see why Klopp was reportedly so keen to sign Chilwell back in 2016, considering the progress he has made.

The 22-year-old has the ability to be a world-class left-back – in fact, he isn’t too far off that already.

Robertson is arguably unrivalled in the role currently, but in Chilwell, Leicester have someone they will do well to keep hold of.
