# Diouf accuses Gerrard of not liking black people

El Hadji Diouf has responded to criticism from Steven Gerrard in the ex-Reds captain’s autobiography by insinuating that he is a racist.

In an interview with Senegalese radio station [Radio Future Media](https://twitter.com/oluwashina/status/643776013919481856), the former Liverpool winger said:

> Gerrard has never liked black people.
>
> I showed Gerrard I was black, that I wasn’t English, I’m no pushover. He never dared looked me in the eye.
>
> We all saw how he made life difficult for Balotelli at Liverpool.

This glaring attack comes just days after Gerrard revealed the players he liked the least in his 17-year career at Anfield. Gerrard said in his autobiography, serialised in [the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3233032/Steven-Gerrard-reveals-ran-rule-new-Liverpool-signing-training-session-Xabi-Alonso-El-Hadji-Diouf-Luis-Suarez-Mario-Balotelli.html):

> I don’t really want to waste time thinking about El Hadji Diouf but it’s worth highlighting his wasted seasons at Liverpool as an example of how it can all go wrong.
>
> A few people have since asked me if I saw any comparison between Diouf and Mario Balotelli and I’ve always said no. I’ve got respect for Balotelli; I’ve got none for Diouf.

Diouf joined Liverpool in 2002 from RC Lens for £10m and was a player that came highly recommend to Reds boss Gerard Houllier.

In his three-year spell at the club, Diouf scored six times in 55 appearances, but his time at Anfield is remembered most for a spitting incident involving a Celtic fan in a UEFA cup tie, which saw the player banned for two matches.

Thirty-four-year-old Diouf is now playing for Sabah in the Malaysian Premier League after spells at Rangers, Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United, among others.
