# Fekir admits only Liverpool know why deal broke down

Lyon Captain Nabil Fekir claims that only Liverpool know why a summer transfer to Anfield never materialised.

The France international and World Cup winner appeared destined to sign for the Reds shortly before the World Cup began, with a £53million move all but completed.

However, a last minute hitch and the deal broke down, despite Fekir having already taken his medical and even conducted his first interview as a Liverpool player, according to leaked images of said interview on Twitter.

However Liverpool reportedly called the deal off, and now Fekir is back playing for Les Gones, coming on as a substitute against Strasbourg on Friday.

After being questioned about the deal and why it broke down, as reported by [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/415056/liverpool-news-nabil-fekir-reveals-transfer-broke-down/), Fekir had this to say:

> I heard a lot of things. The real reason? Only Liverpool know.

> These things happen, it’s just how it is. We have to move on, it’s well in the past now.

> I have totally come to terms with the failed transfer to Liverpool.
