# Mignolet looking to battle for his place at Liverpool

Simon Mignolet is still fighting to be Liverpool’s number one, despite summer signing Alisson Becker establishing himself as the Reds first choice goalkeeper in recent weeks, reports the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/liverpools-simon-mignolet-still-fighting-15294747).

The Belgian has not made a Premier League since January 1st this year after losing his spot to Loris Karius and the signing of Alisson which leaves Mignolet as the third choice at Anfield.

But Mignolet is keen to show he has not given up hope on his Anfield spell saying in an interview with [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11528189/simon-mignolet-working-hard-and-not-thinking-of-liverpool-future):

> I will go back to Liverpool and work hard. I will always be there for the team.

> That’s the only thing I can do at this moment. I am not thinking about my future at this moment in time. The only thing I can do is wait for my chance and work hard in training.

Defence has been one of Liverpool’s strongest areas this season conceding only three goals in their first eight league games, a defensive record equaled only by champions Manchester City and while defender Virgil Van Dijk has been receiving plenty of plaudits the record is due in no small part to Alisson’s heroics between the sticks. This will come as a blow to Mignolet’s chances of first-team football as Alisson has shown himself to be a world-class shot-stopper.

Mignolet was linked with numerous clubs over the summer but chose to remain on Merseyside in order to fight for his place and with these latest comments he has made it clear that he will not be moving anywhere in a rush.
