# Shaqiri admits he’s a long ‘admirer’ of Reds boss Klopp

Xherdan Shaqiri has expressed his delight at joining Liverpool, after the club activated his £13.5million Stoke release clause on Friday.

The Swiss forward became the Reds’ third summer arrival, following the earlier capture of Fabinho and the arrival of Naby Keïta, who the club completed a deal for last summer.

Shaqiri has expressed his excitement to work under a man who commands high-intensity football, having admired manager Jurgen Klopp’s style from when he was playing for Bayern Munich against a Klopp led Borussia Dorrmund.

Talking to [LFC TV](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/307049-shaqiri-liverpool-fc-transfer-interview), Shaqiri said:

> I know the coach from Germany, when he was at Dortmund.

> We played against each other – me with Bayern Munich – and they were always big games.

> That was a big point for me to come here, because of the coach. I love his football, how he plays and how he manages a team. I was always an admirer of his so I’m happy to reunite with him.

Shaqiri spent three years in Germany with Bayern, before switching Munich for Milan. Lasting just six months with Internazionale, Shaqiri moved to Stoke, where he has spent the last three years.
