# Van Dijk claims Liverpool won’t be scared of United

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has insisted that the club aren’t afraid of Manchester United, although they are wary of the threat they possess.

Anfield will host the Premier League fixture between the two bitter rivals on Sunday afternoon, and although the Reds will enter the game still unbeaten in the league, the Dutch defender isn’t naïve to underestimate United.

José Mourinho’s men will travel to Merseyside in sixth place in the league table, a whopping 16 points behind their opponents.

Speaking to Jamie Carragher for [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/11581000/virgil-van-dijk-says-liverpool-are-not-scared-but-wary-of-manchester-united-threat) ahead of the game, the Netherlands international claimed that the club need to be ready for what the Red Devils will throw at them. Van Dijk said:

> You know what you’re going to face. We have pretty good pace as well, so we don’t have to be scared of anything, but we need to be aware of their danger.

> They have good players, especially up front, so we need to be ready for that, but other than that we need to play our game, make sure we are on top of that and to put them under pressure.
