# Fenerbahce want Markovic

Fenerbahce are close to the loan signing of Liverpool’s attacking midfielder Lazar Markovic, [reports Dominic King of the Mail.](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3213438/Lazar-Markovic-set-follow-Mario-Balotelli-Liverpool-20m-signing-prepares-season-long-loan-deal-Fenerbahce.html)

The Serbian arrived at Anfield from Benfica for £20m last summer but struggled to live up to that price tag throughout his first year on Merseyside.

Markovic, 21, scored in the opening minutes of the Reds’ first pre-season game last month, but has failed to make the 18-man squad for any of the competitive matches this term.

The former Partizan Belgrade man has fallen further down the pecking order at Anfield now that Brazilian Roberto Firmino has been signed from Hoffenheim, and teenager Jordon Ibe has forced his way into manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

Markovic made his debut for the Reds off the bench against Manchester City in August 2014, before featuring in exactly half of Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures in a disappointing 2014-15 term.

He only started 11 of those league games, with most of his opportunities from the first whistle coming in cup competitions (12 starts).

Markovic managed three goals in 35 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool last season, and could do with some regular football to regain his confidence.
