# Flanagan set for Liverpool return

Jon Flanagan is set to make an emotional return to football this afternoon when he turns out for Liverpool’s Under-21s side, as reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jon-flanagan-make-liverpool-fc-10660781).

Flanagan will be part of the squad that take on Fleetwood Town in a friendly at the Kirby Academy this afternoon, with kick-off scheduled for 1pm.

The right-back has not played a competitive game for Liverpool since the final day of the 2013/2014 season, a win over Newcastle, after a long lasting knee injury kept him sidelined.

Flanagan has been given the all-clear to return after undergoing surgery twice on his left knee.

The England international will be hoping for a swift return to action as he’ll hope to make an impact under his new manager, Jurgen Klopp. Flanagan will need to make an impression and quick in the hope of securing a new contract.

Flanagan agreed a one-year extension in May but is free to talk to foreign clubs in January.
