# Four Findings: Liverpool 4-1 Manchester United

Sure it is preseason, sure the match was in the United States, sure the teams were far from the starting XI’s that will feature in the coming campaign. Still, Liverpool battered Manchester United 4-1 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In another relatively meaningless International Champions Cup match, the Reds continued tuning up for the new season. The squad is being used broadly with ample opportunities to impress but, with the return of Sadio Mané and Mo Salah to the fold, there is an elevated purpose to Liverpool’s preparations. While it is hard to take much away from these matches, there are clues to systemic changes that may become more prominent.

The first half featured Mané and Salah with a central Dominic Solanke. It would not be surprising to see far more matches with only two rather than the full trio that so dominated last year’s attack, especially early in the season. Still, a rotation shows signs of effectiveness. Both Mané and Salah look rested and exceptionally bright as they use these minutes to increase their sharpness. Multiple times they looked telepathically connected and created a number of chances that just lacked finish.

The second half included more wholesale changes but many delayed until the 64th minute. While Liverpool dominated proceedings, squeezing United onto their own half for the majority, it was not until all the substitutes entered the match. At that point, Liverpool simply pulled away, putting their rivals to the sword. Three goals in the final 25 minutes confirmed the dominance of the display.

Here are four findings from the match.
