# Liverpool 4-3 Manchester City: Four Findings

The league leaders arrived in Liverpool without a victory at Anfield in 14 games and the Reds sent them away empty-handed again.

In what has to be the match of the Premier League season, Liverpool ended Manchester City’s record-breaking unbeaten run with a 4-3 victory.

In what often looked like a heavyweight title bout, the two best teams in the league faced off in a fixture that featured exceptional performances all over the pitch. The scoreline flattered the side atop the table as the Reds were rampant. The result meant absolute scenes erupted at Anfield. For the Reds supporters on Merseyside – town.

It had been 30 matches since Manchester City last lost and the Reds had to still be smarting since they collapsed at the Etihad. The two factors could only lead to a massive top four collision. Liverpool were more than up for the occasion and achieved new heights of gegenpressing to unsettle City from the start. An early goal from Alexander Oxlade-Chamberlain and the stage was set in a match where historically the side that scores first does not lose.

This result no doubt softens the sting of Philippe Coutinho’s untimely departure. Plus, new centre-back Virgil van Dijk was forced to sit this one out with a tight hamstring. In spite of the challenges, Liverpool made a definitive statement. All suggestions that this side lacks character should be summarily dismissed. Meanwhile, the Merseysiders exacted revenge and extended their own unbeaten run to 14 matches.

Here are four findings from the match…
