# Genk and Napoli hold talks over potential Berge move

Liverpool have been dealt a potential blow in their attempts to sign Sander Berge.

The Genk midfielder has impressed in the Champions League this season, despite their elimination on Tuesday night.

He did well against Liverpool in their two group stage clashes and has been linked with both the Reds and fellow Group E opponents Napoli.

It looks as though Napoli are the favourites to get their man, however, following their 4-0 win over Genk.

The Belgian club’s president, Peter Croonen, has admitted to *[Calcio Napoli 24](https://www.calcionapoli24.it/calcio_mercato/genk-il-presidente-a-cn24-non-solo-berge-nella-chiacchierata-con-giuntoli-n424901.html)* that talks were held on Tuesday regarding the possible signing of Berge:

> We spoke to the Napoli directors about Berge today, but not only that,” said Croonen.

> We talked about our players and Napoli players, they expressed an appreciation for Berge, but we didn’t go beyond that.

> It’s already well known that several European clubs are interested in him. We didn’t talk about the price-tag, it was more in general about the quality of the player.

Berge looks a player with a bright future, cutting an elegant figure in the middle of the park.

Liverpool’s interest doesn’t feel as concrete as Napoli’s, which suggests they could miss out on him.

There is no denying that the Reds would be a more exciting club to join, though, so Berge’s head could still be turned.
