# Gerrard believes Klopp already knows his Liverpool exit date

Steven Gerrard believes Jurgen Klopp already knows when he will leave as Liverpool manager.

The German recently [signed](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50780855) a new long-term deal at Anfield, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2024.

Speaking on *[The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher](https://audioboom.com/channels/5005036)*, Gerrard says he thinks the 52-year-old will already know his exit date:

> I think Fergie knew that he could see the creaking signs and it would need another cycle comes back round.

> As we are seeing now, it might be a longer job than people thought.

> I don’t think Jurgen would do that at Liverpool. I think he will already know now when he is going to go.

I don’t actually agree with Gerrard when it comes to his opinion on Klopp’s future.

I think he will assess how things are progressing once 2024 lies on the horizon, before deciding whether or not to stay on.

It is easy to envisage Klopp feeling that he has done all he can by that point, though, considering he will have been in the role for nine years.

Given his high-intensity style, and the fact he will be approaching 60 years of age, he may well feel it is time to move on.

In comparison, Klopp spent [seven years at both Mainz and Borussia Dortmund](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%BCrgen_Klopp), before his teams naturally reached the end of their cycle.

It is impossible to predict how Liverpool will be faring come 2024, however, which is why it is hard to assume anything about Klopp’s future for the time being.
