# Grading Liverpool’s January transfer window

Liverpool’s window was very underwhelming, considering we smashed our club record transfer fee.

Getting Virgil van Dijk was fantastic and I’m convinced he’ll be an excellent player for Liverpool, so I’m delighted with that deal.

However, we gave in to Philippe Coutinho’s demands and sold him to Barcelona, which in itself is disappointing. What makes it worse is that we did so without bringing in a replacement!

That, for me, is unforgivable. In a time where other clubs are rejecting huge offers for unhappy players, we folded too easily. I would have understood it somewhat had we brought in Thomas Lemar or Riyad Mahrez, or even arranged to get Naby Keita earlier, but we didn’t.

Having loaned out Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool leave the window weaker in attack and midfield than they entered it. That is ridiculous for a team hoping to finish second in the table and make a genuine push at winning the Champions League.
