# “He’s Liverpool’s playmaker” – Carragher lauds the brilliance of Alexander-Arnold

Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Trent Alexander-Arnold, admitting he hasn’t seen a full-back like him before.

The 21-year-old is in superb form for the Reds, with his creativity from right-back currently unrivalled anywhere in the world.

He arguably possesses more technical ability than anyone else in Liverpool’s squad, which speaks volumes about his talent.

Alexander-Arnold has completely changed the way in which English right-backs are viewed and Carragher is in awe of him.

Speaking on [The Anfield Wrap](https://twitter.com/TheAnfieldWrap/status/1194321460933910536?s=20), the Liverpool legend compared him with Steven Gerrard, lauding his vast influence:

> I don’t think I’ve seen a full-back like Trent \[Alexander-Arnold\] before in the game.

> You’ve got great full-backs like Cafu and Roberto Carlos, overlapping and putting a great cross in, but he’s Liverpool’s playmaker.
>
> Liverpool’s setup isn’t that conventional, with midfielders hard-working, running and covering people – Trent is like a midfield player.

> It’s like putting Steven Gerrard there. That’s how I imagine he’d have played at full-back.
>
> When Stevie played with us, every time you got the ball you wanted to give him the ball, because you knew there wouldn’t be a simple pass next. It’s like that with Trent.
>
> Sometimes they (players like Alexander-Arnold) just take that extra half a second on the ball, because they’re looking for something to happen.
>
> I was watching him on Sunday and he could have given it to (Dejan) Lovren, but he’s looking for the left-footed pass (to Robertson).
>
> Liverpool are the best team in Europe and the playmaker is a right-back. I’ve never seen someone have that much influence on the ball in a team from that position.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

It really is incredible what Alexander-Arnold is doing at the moment, proving to be one of the most important players for the European champions, at the age of just 21.

He is a truly special young talent who has the ability to become a future great for both club and country.

There has been talk of Alexander-Arnold returning to his former midfield role one day, but changing his position is not required for the time being.

Would he really be any more influential in the middle of the park, in an area where Jurgen Klopp prefers industry over creativity?
