# “I love Liverpool” – Sterling refuses to rule out Reds return

Raheem Sterling admits he still loves Liverpool, refusing to rule out the idea of playing for them again one day.

Sterling matured into a top-class player during his time at Anfield, blossoming under Brendan Rodgers.

He played a key role in the 2013/14 season, despite still being a teenager at the time.

Sterling’s impressive form earned him a [move](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33497488) to Manchester City in 2015, which [hampered his reputation](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/11730469/Liverpool-news-Steven-Gerrard-lashes-out-at-Raheem-Sterling.html) at Liverpool, especially because of the way he left.

Since then, the England star has often been heavily booed at Anfield, also taking the odd [swipe](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-city-raheem-sterling-liverpool-16184445) at his former club.

On Monday, Sterling took over Colossal Sports Management’s [Instagram account](https://www.instagram.com/colossalsportsmgt/?hl=en), taking part in a Q&A.

The 25-year-old admitted he still thinks fondly of Liverpool, hinting that he could even return there eventually, with quotes cited by the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/raheem-sterling-declares-undying-love-21744286?_ga=2.56514091.1294613929.1584957003-127352376.1583006612):

> Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart. It’s a team that done a lot for me growing up.

### Read Liverpool Verdict

It is an interesting response from Sterling, who has rarely indicated about re-representing the Reds before.

As it stands, however, it is hard to imagine him leaving City any time soon, especially given the rivalry between themselves and Liverpool.

I also don’t think he could get into the Reds’ current team, despite his brilliance at City. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are superior, in my opinion, with Salah scoring more goals in the last three seasons – [91](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_Salah#2019%E2%80%9320:_World_club_champions) compared to [68](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raheem_Sterling#Career_statistics) –  and Mane managing [seven Premier League assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/109915/History/Sadio-Man%C3%A9) to Sterling’s [one](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97692/History/Raheem-Sterling) in 2019/20.

I have no doubt he could be a big success under Jurgen Klopp in a parallel universe, but the idea of him back at Liverpool now is simply not logical.
