# “I saw something different” – Gerrard hails Alexander-Arnold’s brilliance

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the Steven Gerrard of this generation – a boyhood Liverpool fan becoming a hero to millions at Anfield.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise for the Reds, jumping from promising teenager to world-class right-back in no time.

Alexander-Arnold has been a joy to watch at times this season, with his technical expertise unrivalled in Liverpool’s squad.

Gerrard used to watch Alexander-Arnold during his academy days, seeing “something different” immediately.

Speaking to the [https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrard-key-attribute-made-17257067](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrard-key-attribute-made-17257067)*[Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrard-key-attribute-made-17257067)*, the Liverpool legend believes his attitude has been as important as his talent when it comes to making the grade at Anfield:

> I was lucky to have a few days around Trent during his Academy days and he stood out.

> Of course people always talk about his technique and the stuff they see, but I saw something in this kid that was more about character.

> So talent will get you to a certain place, but I seen that he had the fight, the desire and commitment and that is what will keep him there consistently throughout what will hopefully be a long career.

> The talent is so obvious but I saw something different in him and it was more to do with the character and that is the reason why he is where he is.
