# Pundit Reactions: Jamie Carragher backs Trent Alexander-Arnold after performance vs Aston Villa

Liverpool reacted perfectly to their loss in the Champions League mid-week, with a strong [2-1 win](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56622157) against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Reds ended a six-game losing streak at Anfield, taking them just [three points](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) off of the top four.

One of those players that came back with a bang was Liverpool’s [£90million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trent-alexander-arnold/profil/spieler/314353) defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The youngster scored the winning goal against Dean Smith’s side in the 91st minute.

This promoted plenty of positive reaction on social media, with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher one of those singing Trent’s praises…

> Really pleased for [@TrentAA](https://twitter.com/TrentAA?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) he’s had a lot of stick this week, it’s part of the game & growing as a player. Responded in the right on way on the pitch. VAR offsides what can we do??!! [#LIVAST](https://twitter.com/hashtag/LIVAST?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Carragher is spot on in his assessment, especially given how young Trent actually is.

People tend to forget that at just 22-years-old, Trent has plenty of his career left and he is still learning every week.

It is clear that the youngster will likely make mistakes down the line but that is part of the game as a young player.

There is no doubt that Liverpool fans are watching a great player unfold in front of them and Carragher is clearly aware of that too.

Hopefully, the squad and Trent can carry this form into mid-week, with the Reds facing Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men will have a task on their hands with a 3-1 aggregate already in Real’s favour.
